Second season of St. John’s Farmers’ Market off to an exciting start

The second season of the St. John’s Farmers’ Market got off to an exciting start on Saturday, June 6th, 2009 with record-breaking attendance. Over 1400 people hungry for local food showed up and caused many vendors to sell out early. The market has have a variety of old and new vendors, workshops, music, fresh coffee and a fantastic feeling of community for the whole family.

Market coordinators are still on the lookout for more farmers, and invite all regional farmers to attend the market as vendors. Farmers will enjoy the benefits of selling directly to an average of over 1000 consumers at every market as well as networking with other farmers.

The market will run every Saturday from June 6th until November 28th, from 9 am until 2 pm at the Lion’s Club Chalet on Bonaventure Avenue.

The Friends of the St. John’s Farmers’ Market was officially incorporated as a non-profit on March 27th, 2009 as the governing body for the St. John’s Farmers’ Market. It is run by a group of dedicated volunteers who strive to create, maintain and support the weekly St. John’s Farmers Market and all that it represents.

PRESS RELEASE - Tuesday, June 2nd, 2009

Second season of the St. John’s Farmers’ Market launches this Saturday.

After a wildly successful first season, the St. John’s Farmers’ Market (SJFM) is pleased to announce the start of the second season of the weekly farmers’ market. The first market of the season will be held this Saturday, June 6th.

A wide variety of vendors will participate at this first market, including many farmers with early produce, international foods, arts and crafts, fresh coffee, photography, waffles, sweets for the kids, facepainting, and a live band outdoors! A workshop for Container and Square-Foot Gardening sponsored by FEASt and NLEN will be held at 11:00 am.

The market will run every Saturday from June 6th until November 28th, from 9 am until 2 pm at the Lion’s Club Chalet on Bonaventure Avenue.

Request for Face Painting & Balloon Animal Photos

Derek James (aka: Wandering Brush) is researching how face/arm painting effects community/personal/family, well being, healthy communities, cultural harmony along with the healing aspects of this art. Derek would like to see your photos of children, teens and adults being painted (& after) at the Farmers’ Market and other related events, along with your comments and experiences of being painted (or having balloon animal made) and how it changed you and/or your child’s day. Some of these photos and/or comments may be used on Derek’s web site, or used for promotional, presentation & Safe Face Painting training workshops. Photos of children with balloon animals are also requested.
