April 21-27, 2013 is National Volunteer Week in Canada. Here in Newfoundland and Labrador this year the theme of volunteer week is “Let’s Make Some Noise” and we’re encouraged to let the 52% of our population who volunteer their time know we appreciate them.
The SJFM was started by volunteers, and still runs on volunteer power. Sure, we have two seasonal, part-time staff – the Market Manager and the Assistant Market Manager – and we couldn’t run the market without them.
But without our volunteers the St. John’s Farmers’ Market would not exist. Period. End of Sentence.
From the volunteer Board members, to the volunteer Committee members (who do much of the groundwork), to the volunteers who help promote us at community events, to the early riser volunteers who set up tents, tables and chairs on market mornings, to the cheery, smiling faces that serve you coffee on market days. And countless other roles we aren’t mentioning because there’s so many.
If you’ve ever volunteered at/with/for the St. John’s Farmer’s Market WE SINCERELY THANK YOU! And so do all our vendors and customers – without you, our market would not exist.
PLEASE NOTE: we’re having technical difficulties tonight and can’t seem to insert a picture of one of our former volunteers slash former assistant market manager Heather Reid. To see the picture of smiling Heather hop on over to our new Facebook page.
