Below is our first media release of the season. We’re working on having a media section on our website but until then we’ll post them here.
The St. John’s Farmers’ Market opens the doors for its sixth season on Saturday, June 1st from 9am-2pm. As in previous years the market’s weekly home will be the Lions Club Chalet, behind the ReMax Centre off Bonventure and Mayor Avenues. The 2013 season runs every Saturday until the last Saturday before Christmas.
Several local farmers will be there with in-season local produce. They’ll have greens, sprouts, rhubarb, green onions, herbs and more. Eggs and pork, turkey and ground beef will be on offer too.
There are a few new vendors at the market this year, selling goodies like hand-crafted soaps, home-made natural dog food, and ceramics. The 2013 season will also feature new foods: sweet and savory crepes, fish cakes and paninis.
Of course there will be all of the mouth-watering favourite prepared food you’ve come to expect – multi-cultural cuisine such as curries, kebabs and samosas as well as waffles, toutons, cupcakes, mini-donuts, granola and more!
Market Manager Margaret Graves can’t wait for the season to start. “The St. John’s Farmers’ Market is such a valuable place for the community to get together over a cup of coffee,” she says. “We’ve received an in-pouring of applications from vendors, so look forward to seeing your old favourites and lots of new surprises! We’ll have about 40 exciting vendors at the first market as well as appearances from community groups, buskers and fun for the kids like balloon twisting!”
The St. John’s Farmers’ Market is run by volunteers, so if you are interested in helping out on market day please contact the Market Manager using the contact information on our website. Volunteers always get free coffee and the utmost appreciation!
