St. John’s Farmers Market ­ Market Manager Position (2014)

Responsible to the St. John’s Farmers’ Market (SJFM) Board of Directors, the SJFM Market Manager plays an integral role in the operation of the Market. The individual in this position is responsible for the week to week operations of the market, including but not limited to the selection and retention of market vendors, volunteer staff and other internal and external stakeholders. The ideal candidate would be high-energy and well organized, would require minimal supervision, with the ability to effectively manage their time and be self-motivated.

  • Communications and Market Promotion
  • Market Set­Up and Break­Down
  • Volunteer Organization and Management
  • Coffee Shop Operations
  • Awareness and Enforcement of Market Rules
  • Dispute and Emergency Resolution
  • Ensuring Food Safety Compliance
  • Record Keeping
  • Budget Management
  • Market Evaluation and Report Writing
  • Attendance at Board Committee meetings
  • Skills and Qualifications:

  • Interest and passion for a community-based Farmers’ Market
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Ability to communicate respectfully and professionally
  • Physical ability to set up and move tables and tents as well as circulate through the vendor stalls on Market days (aprox. 15 kilos)
  • Proficient with email and ability to create spreadsheets
  • Asset Qualifications

  • Experience working with a volunteer board
  • Access to a vehicle
  • First Aid
  • Financial literacy and basic bookkeeping
  • Conflict management skills
  • Experience in food service management
  • Previous experience managing a farmers’ market would be a definite asset
  • The salary is $16.25/hr for a 35 hour work week. The position will start 14 April 2014, and run to the end of the Market season in late December with the possibility of extension.
