RFP – Creative Mentor – Lead Carpenter

Request For Proposals – St. John’s Farmers’ Market

Creative Mentor – Lead Carpenter

The St. John’s Farmers’ Market (SJFM) began in the fall of 2007. Since moving to the Lions Chalet in 2008, the Market’s trajectory has been one of steady growth. It has gone from a single farmer to upwards of 15 on a summer day, surrounded by dozens of hot food, prepared food, and craft vendors. This summer the SJFM will be moving into its new permanent home in the re-purposed Metrobus depot on Freshwater Road.

SJFM is working in partnership with the Rabbittown Community Centre, Business and Arts NL, Tool Lending Library and the Architects (Fougere Menchenton) to construct required new vendor infrastructure units for the Market.

In preparation of opening in the new facility, SJFM has secured funding to build up to 30 or more customized vendor cart/stalls. The cart/stalls will be constructed of wood and built with table top height display area and a lockable cupboard below. (The Architect is developing the design and specs for these units.)

At this time we are looking to retain on contract a Creative Mentor – Lead Carpenter, who will oversee this cart/stall construction project. Approximately 20 youth, selected by the Rabbittown Community Centre, will report to and be supervised by the Creative Lead in constructing the units. We are looking for applications from interested individuals with

● Extensive experience in finishing carpentry
● Extensive experience working and supervising young team members
● Ability to manage a project of this size and scope
● Ability to invest creatively on design and interpretation in the customization of the units for specific vendors
● Must have a current vulnerable persons clearance
● Must have a valid driver’s license and access to transportation
● Must have valid First Aid (and if not, must be willing to take First Aid course with youth workers)

The construction work will take place in the new SJFM building on Freshwater Road in St John’s (prior to opening) and happen between early June and mid-July 2018. We anticipate that the work will primarily occur on evenings and weekends. This position will be paid a $5000 honorarium.

The Creative Mentor will work with the Architect and the SJFM to finalize designs and manage the project. Start date approx June 15, ending approx July 15, 2018.

Please submit your proposal including a detailed resume and description of past work. Please include photos of previous projects and or examples of your creative work.

Proposals are due June 15, 2018
